GENERAL SUMMARY:Prescribes, delegates and coordinates professional nursing
care to clients served by the Employee Health Department through the use of
nursing
processes and in accordance with hospital policy/procedure. Meets job specific
standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/COMPETENCIES
- Patient Interaction.
- Effectively provides service to patients and families with consideration of the individual’s age and developmental and cognitive levels.
- Performs drug testing and Breath Alcohol testing if certified according to department protocol.
- Completes chain of custody forms and consents completely and accurately.
- Communicates results to appropriate contact person.
- Forwards forms and specimens to the proper resource, when applicable.
- Provides follow-up care for a client involved in a blood/body exposure.
- Determines the need for follow-up of exposures according to BBF algorithm and CDC regulations.
- Provide counseling specific to the client’s needs regarding BBF exposure.
- Ensures communication of lab results to client and source’s physician.
- Performs annual physicals for clients of CHS according to their job requirements.
- Completes forms and consents completely and accurately.
- Updates employee’s medical file with current information.
- Updates HRIS system accurately in a timely manner.
- Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the client (i.e. falls, needle punctures)
- Completes report forms for employee injury/illness.
- Communicates to appropriate personnel regarding safety issues.
- Takes a pro-active role in injury prevention and safety awareness.
- Processes and files worker’s compensation claims and assists with questions.
- Process and files worker’s compensation claims.
- Communicates information to the case manager.
- Generates and maintains employee and applicant medical and worker’s compensation files (actives and terms). Files all medical and worker’s compensation information and keeps files up to date.
- Maintains Employee Health inventory.
- Orders first aid, ergonomic, office and drug screen supply inventory
- when necessary and maintains supply storage area.
- Identifies nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, and/or protocols for each patient, based on assessment, at the time of treatment.
- Identifies and documents nursing diagnosis and/or collaborative problems (CPG) appropriate for each patient.
- Ongoing patient assessments/ reassessments are completed according to the appropriate CPG, protocol and unit standard of care.
- Revises the plan of care based on patient condition and interdisciplinary input.
- Identifies and documents workers’ compensation injuries and reviews employee’s return to work documentation.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS/COMPETENCIES
- Performs other duties assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact with all levels of employees .
- Advanced organizational skills
- Strong Customer Service skills.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel
- Knowledge of HRIS system Lawson, preferred.
- Basic Life Support certification required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Must possess a current valid Nebraska RN license/RN Compact license.
- Must be certified in Basic Life Support.
- Other certifications/education as defined by area specific job competencies
