This position supports the Division of Transplantation of the Department of
Surgery in establishing a pancreatic islet transplantation program. Provides
support in
process development, validation, and interpretation of ongoing activities.
Performs,
evaluates, teaches, and reports clinical laboratory procedures using a wide
range and depth
of specialized knowledge according to department protocols. Support continual
improvement
of laboratory services to ensure quality and timely information. This position
coordinates
and oversees organ processing and process development, and will include
developing and
writing procedures for laboratory activities, as required by FDA Good
Manufacturing and
Laboratory Practices.
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Two years laboratory experience. Specialization in diagnostic and molecular
biology preferred. Effective communication skills. Knowledge of methodology and techniques;
ability to analyze, document, interpret scientific and statistical data. Theoretical and
practical understanding of aseptic technique. Familiarity with principles of cell culture.
Ability to contribute to the productivity of the work team through compliance with hospital
and departmental attendance policies. Ability to take responsibility for completing work in
the department and assists others when needed. Ability to demonstrate knowledge to make
suggestions for improvement of protocols. Ability to demonstrate initiative to identify and
carry out other duties and willingly accept delegation of additional projects, developing a
system to successfully accomplish intended objectives. Ability to cooperate with other work
team members to resolve problems and improve motivation. Ability to meet deadlines for
competency and regulatory assignments.
